Women's lacrosse winning streak snapped

BEVERLY, MASS.- The RWU women's lacrosse four-game winning streak was snapped Saturday by the defending conference champion Endicott Gulls. Endicott senior Alex Pearce (Underhill, Vt.) and junior Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) both tallied four goals in their 13-6 home win.

The Gulls scored seven of the game's first eight goals to take a 7-1 lead with 5:44 remaining in the first half. RWU sophomore Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) stopped Endicott's five-goal scoring streak at 4:07, taking an assist from classmate Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.). Halliday scored an unassisted goal just 15 seconds later moving the score to 7-3 at the break.

A determined Hawks squad tallied three-straight goals to start the second half, beginning with a free position goal for senior Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.). Malenczak scored her second goal of the game at 24:48, followed by junior Jessie Alden (Cataumet, Mass.), also scoring a free position goal, at 21:29.

At 13:37, the Gulls began to pull away. Three goals in the span of 3:10 put them ahead 10-6, before three goals in the final 3:01 finished the game at 13-6.

The teams were an even 10-10 in draw controls and RWU tallied just three more turnovers with 22 in the game. A large differential in shots was the difference, despite RWU sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Magee's (Columbus, N.J.) strong effort, registering 16 saves in the contest. Endicott recorded 39 shots compared the RWU's 22. Endicott senior goalkeeper Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine) notched 10 saves in the win.

Malenczak led RWU with two goals and five ground balls, while Criss also posted two points with one goal and one assist.

RWU looks to get back on the winning track Tuesday, when it travels to Springfield, Mass. to face Western New England College in a 4 p.m. contest. Endicott next travels to face Wellesley College, Wednesday, at 4:30 p.m.
