Second half rally gives Hawks lacrosse 17-7 win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore attacker Claire Halliday (Trenton, NJ) netted six goals and junior attacker Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, CT) scored five as visiting Roger Williams defeated the Western New England College women's lacrosse team 17-7 on Tuesday in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

 

After taking a 3-1 lead with 16:56 left in the first half, the Golden Bears soon found themselves trailing 6-3 with 9:14 remaining as Roger Williams (5-2, 3-1 TCCC) went on a five goal tear led by Halliday who potted in two.

 

WNEC (3-4, 2-1 TCCC) stopped the Hawks run with 3:33 left as senior captain Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) scored her 12th goal of the season.

 

Up 6-4 at the start of the second half, the Hawks scored eight of the next nine goals to go ahead 14-5. The team would finish with 11 goals in the final 30 minutes, including four by Halliday, three by Beckwith, and one each for Jillian Colley (Danbury, Conn.), Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.), Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.) and Lauren Ferri (Northport, N.Y.).

 

WNEC senior captain Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA), sophomore attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY), and freshman midfielder Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) had two goals apiece for the Golden Bears.

 

Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) registered eight saves while junior Amanda Magee (Columbus, NJ) had 20 stops for Roger Williams.
