Halliday posts 10 points in Hawks win

BRISTOL, R.I.- Sophomore attack Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) scored five goals and notched five assists Tuesday, helping the Hawks to an 18-9 road victory over Bridgewater State College. The win improves the team's record to 8-2, while the hosts fall to 7-4.

Bridgewater State finished the game with the edge in shots (34-30), ground balls (19-9), draw controls (16-15) and posted fewer turnovers (22-23), but between Halliday's offense and a strong performance by RWU junior goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) who recorded 19 saves in 60 minutes, the Hawks won their fourth straight.

Back-to-back goals by Bridgewater State's Jenny Jones to start the second half brought the Bears to within one, 7-6, before RWU rattled off the game's next seven markers for the 14-6 cushion with 13:07 remaining in regulation. After another pair of goals by Bridgewater State, Halliday contributed on each of the game's next three goals, helping RWU more than double the hosts total with 5:48 on the clock.

Halliday's 10 points marks her career's second-highest total after posting 11 points (6g-5a) in a 17-2 ECAC Quarterfinal win over Worcester State College, May 8, 2008.

RWU jumped out to a 4-0 lead within the first 13:22, including two goals by senior Libby Stout (Concord, Mass.). A free position goal for Courtney Lennon at 5:26 snapped the Hawks' scoring streak before RWU sophomore Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) scored the first of her four goals to give RWU the 5-1 lead with 7:28 remaining in the half. Her four tallies ties her career high for goals in a game.

After back-to-back goals by Bridgewater State, the teams traded goals to enter the half with RWU holding the 7-4 edge.

RWU junior Natasha Billie (Pt. Pleasant, N.J.) finished the game with a career-high four goals, while junior Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, Conn.) registered two goals and three assists. Jones and Katie DeMaio led the Bears with three goals each.

RWU continues its non-conference schedule Thursday hosting Rhode Island College at 4 p.m. The Bears host TCCC member Salve Regina Tuesday at 4 p.m.
