Hawks extend winning streak to five

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team needed 10:23 to gain a 9-0 lead over the visiting Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College Thursday before cruising to an 18-1 non-conference victory.

 

Senior Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.) started the game's scoring at 28:42 into the contest, assisted by junior Natasha Billie (Point Pleasant, N.J.) who tallied her own marker just 1:22 later. Back-to-back goals by freshman Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.) gave RWU the 4-0 lead with fewer than five minutes expired in the half. RWU scored the next five goals before Rhode Island College sophomore Suany Almonte (Warwick, R.I.) sprinted the length of the field and scored to snap the Hawks' scoring streak at the 15:52 mark.

 

RWU finished the half with five additional goals to take the 14-1 lead at the break.

 

The second half featured 22 fewer shots than the first as the Hawks controlled the pace of play. The Anchorwomen registered four shots in the second frame, but RWU junior goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) stopped them all, finishing the game with one goal allowed and six saves. Her counterpart, sophomore Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, R.I.), registered eight saves in 60 minutes.

 

The win was the Hawks fifth straight and ninth on the season, while Rhode Island College falls to 1-11. The Anchorwomen move on to host Framingham State College Saturday at 12 p.m. The Hawks are also at home Saturday, as they return to The Commonwealth Coast Conference play, hosting the University of New England in a 1 p.m. contest.
