BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team hit the 20-goal mark for the first time this season in a 21-9 victory Saturday afternoon over the University of New England.
Amanda Barker got things started for New England with a goal in the opening minute to give the Nor'Easters a quick 1-0 lead. That began a six-minute stretch were RWU and New England traded goals, with scores by Lauren Ferri (Northport, N.Y.) and Libby Stout (Concord, Mass.) for the Hawks and one by Danielle Cate of UNE.
Jillian Colley (Danbury, Conn.) put in a shot at the 24-minute mark to put the Hawks up 3-2. Her goal sparked an 8-1 Hawk run over the following ten minutes to give RWU a 10-2 advantage. Despite the eight-goal deficit, the Nor'Easters remained in the game, closing out the first half with five scores to make it a 13-8 game.
In the second half, Barker scored on a free position shot in the first two minutes to bring UNE to within four. The scoring halted there for the Nor'Easters, as the Hawks shut them out over the final 28 minutes of the game while scoring nine in the period to pick up the win.
Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) made 12 saves for the Hawks to get the victory. Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) led all scorers with five goals in the game, while Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.) added four goals and five assists.
Tara Geraghty made 15 saves in goal in the loss for New England. Kate McCarter finished with four goals with Kim Bilodeau adding two assists.
Roger Williams (10-2, 5-1 TCCC) takes on Salve Regina University Monday at 4:00 p.m., while New England (3-10, 2-5 TCCC) hosts Gordon College Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
