BRISTOL, R.I. –
The RWU Women's Lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday in Willimantic, Conn. to the host Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University.  The teams played to an even 7-7 through the first 30 minutes, but ECSU doubled the Hawks' output in the second half, winning in the end, 15-11.

RWU jumped out to a 3-0 lead just 3:18 into the game on two goals by senior Annie Alvord (Yorktown, N.Y.) and one by junior Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.). ECSU bounced back, as five different Warriors tallied the game's next five goals to move the hosts ahead 5-3. Another three-straight goals for the Hawks put RWU back into the lead with 4:33 remaining in the first half.

The seesaw battle continued, as back-to-back goals for ECSU moved the score to 7-6 before senior Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, Conn.) scored her second goal of the game with three seconds left in the first half to tie the score at the break.

A slow start to the second half hurt the Hawks with ECSU scoring six of the first seven goals to extend a five-goal advantage. The teams traded goals the rest of the way to the 15-11 final.

The Warriors dominated the second half taking 18 shots to the Hawks' eight. The Warriors also held the second-half advantage in ground balls, 18-12, and posted fewer turnovers, 9-13. RWU scored on its lone free-position shot of the half, while ECSU scored on four of its six opportunities.

RWU senior goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) suffered the loss despite 13 saves in 60 minutes. Her counterpart, freshman Nancy Ibrahim (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made six saves in the win.

The Warriors return to action against Mt. Holyoke March 31 at 4:30 p.m. while RWU holds its home-opener Monday, March 22, beginning at 4 p.m.
