BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team scored the final three goals of the game to break a 7-7 tie and defeat visiting Emerson College Monday in a non-conference contest at Bayside Field. The win improves the Hawks' record to 10-3, including eight straight wins, while the Lions fall to 7-5.

After the teams combined for 13 goals in the first half, just four goals were scored in the second half, including the final three by RWU. Hawks sophomore Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.) scored an unassisted game-winning goal to break a 7-7 tie at 23:59. Senior Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, Conn.) tacked on the final two for RWU at 15:02 and 7:21 for the 10-7 victory.

RWU senior goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) stopped five of six Emerson shots-on-goal in the final 30 minutes. Emerson freshman Emily Saeger (Center Valley, Pa.) finished the game with four saves in the second half and six in 60 minutes.

The teams' leading scorers in Emerson junior Meg Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) and RWU junior Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) marked each other throughout the game and finished tied with a game-high five goals each. RWU junior Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) also finished the day with five points, notching one goal and four assists.

Ross tallied the game's first goal at 29:18, followed shortly by Halliday's first goal at 27:17. Ross scored again at 15:38 before Delia notched her first goal 1:16 later. The see-saw battle continued as Emerson junior Laura Miley (Cranston, R.I.) scored on a free position shot to give the Lions the 3-2 lead.

Three straight goals by the Hawks were met with three straight goals by Emerson before Halliday tallied back-to-back markers to end the first half with RWU ahead, 7-6.

Both teams finished the game 1-for-6 on free position shots and tied with 10 ground balls apiece. Emerson held the slight advantage in shots, 23-21, and draw controls, 10-8.

RWU waits eight days for its next home contest, as The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Western New England College visits Bristol for a 4 p.m. contest – the final regular season contest for the Hawks. Emerson meanwhile enters the Greater Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals Wednesday afternoon.
