Box Score WENHAM, MA. – Roger Williams defeated Gordon in women's lacrosse action, Friday night at the Brigham Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Fighting Scots dropped to 5-8, and finish conference play at 5-6. Roger Williams advances to 11-4 and is 8-2 in league play.
Gordon jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as Katie Knaus tallied twice and Michaela Woods and Jordan Alexander both scored in the first eight minutes of the game. However, the Hawks would manage to hold Gordon at bay over the next 22+ minutes while putting together five goals of their own. Senior Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, Conn.) scored three times in the first half to help Roger Williams take a 5-4 lead into the break.
Roger Williams built its lead to 6-4 just 35 seconds into the second half when Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) scored. Knaus scored her third goal of the game moments later, but Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) answered to make it 7-5 Roger Williams.
At 24:35 a free position shot by Knaus cut the lead to 7-6, but once again the Hawks held back Gordon's offense for the remainder of the half. Halliday's free position goal with 8:20 was the last goal of the match.
Both goaltenders enjoyed strong performances as Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) made six saves for Roger Williams and Amelia Vierstra had six stops for Gordon.
Before the game, Gordon honored their six seniors, Michaela Woods (Medford, MA), Laura Strong (Lexington, MA), Katie Knaus (Kensington, CT), Maggie Roth (Saco, ME), Molly Lawry (Iowa City, IA) and Dana Peterson (Lebanon, NH).
RWU is back in action Tuesday, when it hosts Western New England College in its final regular season contest.
