Women’s Lacrosse cruises to win over Colby-Sawyer

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Colby-Sawyer College suffered its first setback in The Commonwealth Coast Conference after a 20-7 loss to the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team.

The Hawks improve to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Chargers dip to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in TCCC play.

Roger Williams scored four of the first five goals of the game six minutes into the contest and would not relinquish the lead. The Hawks held a 7-3 lead in the waning moments of the first half before junior Brittney Murphy (Woburn, Mass.) scored, pulling the Chargers to within three at the break.

The Hawks scored the first three goals of the second frame for a 10-4 lead and cruised to the 20-7 final score. They held a 38-25 edge in shots.

Junior Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.), senior Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.), and freshman Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) led the Hawks with four goals each. Freshman Tina Carpenter (Moorestown, N.J.) scored three times, while senior Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists.

Murphy led the Chargers with four goals and two assists. Sophomore Laurel Bauer, senior Samantha Draper, and junior Molly Prudden (Andover, Mass.) each added a goal.

Sophomore Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) was credited with the victory for Roger Williams. She made 13 saves. Sophomore Liz Malenfant (Siasconset, Mass.) suffered the setback for the Chargers.

Roger Williams takes a break from conference play on Monday with an away contest at Bridgewater State at 6:00 pm. Colby-Sawyer travels to reigning TCCC champion Endicott on Tuesday for a 4:00 pm tilt.
