Women’s Lacrosse snaps skid with win over RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.) scored a season-high ten points on five goals and five assists in the first win of the season for the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team, defeating Rhode Island College 17-12.

The Anchorwomen (0-2) jumped out to an early, 4-0, lead in the first half, sparked by a pair of goals from Ricci, as well as goals from sophomore attacker Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman attacker Harmony Tillison (Cranston, R.I.). The Hawks (1-6) responded with four unanswered goals of their own, highlighted by a pair of goals from sophomore attacker Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.), to make it, 4-4.

After a pair of goals from Signoriello put R.I.C back on top by two, 6-4, Roger Williams posted six of the next seven goals to close out the first half with a 10-7 lead. Delia tallied three of those six goals to key the run, including a score with just three second remaining in the frame.

The Hawks opened the second half in similar fashion, storming out of the break with three consecutive goals to take a 13-7 lead. After a goal from Ricci cut the R.I.C deficit to five, the Hawks added two more, capped off by an unassisted goal from freshman attacker Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.) with 20:30 left to play.

However, the resilient Anchorwomen bounced back with three straight goals, two from senior attacker Molly Voyer (Lincoln, R.I.) and one from Ricci, to make it just, 15-11, with 14:00 remaining in the second half. Despite a late goal from sophomore midfielder Jessalyn O'Neill (North Providence, R.I.), the Hawks added two more goals and killed the clock to seal the, 17-12, victory over R.I.C.

Delia led the Hawks with five goals and five assists for 10 points, while sophomore attacker Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) and freshman attacker Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) each posted three goals of their own. Freshman defender Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.) tallied six draw controls and three caused turnovers, while freshman midfielder Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) posted six draw controls and a goal as well.

Freshman attacker Jessica Ricci (Hope, R.I.) notched a career-high five goals. The Anchorwomen were also aided by a trio of goals from Signoriello, as well as a pair of goals and a pair of assists from Voyer. Junior midfielder Courtney McKiernan (Hope, R.I.) recorded five ground balls and three caused turnovers, while senior defender Jenna Childs (Cranston, R.I.) corralled five ground balls as well.

Freshman goalkeeper Taryn Carbone (Cranston, R.I.) made 10 saves in net for R.I.C, but falls to 0-2 on the season. Junior goalkeeper Justine Sullivan (Norwell, MA) registered four saves and earned her first win of the season (1-6).
