HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College held off the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team late in the game as the Pilgrims came away with a 13-11 win Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 2-3 overall, while the loss drops the Hawks to 1-7 on the season.
New England College would open the game with two quick goals before Roger Williams would use a three goal run taking the 3-2 lead at the 21:54 mark. The two teams would continue to exchange goals through much of the first half but the Hawks would close out the final minutes outscoring the Pilgrims 3-1 taking a 7-5 halftime lead.
NEC would get back-to-back goals from Naimie and Chantale Lacroix (Manchester, N.H.) to open the second half knotting the game at 7-7. The two offenses would continue to battle closely through the second half before NEC's Naimie would tack on two scores in a one minute span to put the Pilgrims up 13-11 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. The Hawks would have several scoring opportunities late but the Pilgrim defense would keep them off the board and hold on for the 13-11 victory.
Senior Amanda Naimie (York, Maine) exploded for seven goal s and one assist. In addition to Naimie, NEC was led by Chantale Lacroix who finished with four goals.
Leading the way for Roger Williams was Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) who netted five goals and Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) who scored two goals and had an assist.
Picking up the win in net for NEC was Rebecca Harvey (Natick, Mass.) who finished with nine saves. In goal for Roger Williams was Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) who recorded an impressive 13 saves on the afternoon.
Roger Williams will host Bridgewater State University on Monday.
