Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse had a second-half lead slip away, as Wheaton College mounted a comeback in the period to defeat the Hawks 14-12 Tuesday afternoon.
Wheaton erased a three-goal deficit in the second half to come away with the victory. With the win, Wheaton begins its season 1-0, while the Hawks drop to 0-2 on the year. The victory for the Lyons is the first for Head Coach Emily Kiablick over her former team.
The Hawks jumped on the board first, getting three goals in the first eight minutes by Kristen Pingree (Bethel, Conn.), Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.), and Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.). Kristen Palmer (East Dorset, Vt.) gave Wheaton its first score of the contest at the 20:55 mark, taking a pass from Sydney Ferguson (Jamestown, R.I.) for the score.
Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) answered with a goal less than a minute later for the Hawks, but Wheaton would go on a 4-0 run over the following five minutes, capped by a free position goal by Hailey Colburn (Belmont, Mass.) to take a 5-4 lead.
Colburn would later add two more scores in the half to put the Lyons up 7-5, but five unanswered Hawk goals to end the half gave RWU a 10-7 lead going into halftime.
