Eastern Connecticut State claims win over Women’s Lacrosse

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse continues to search for its first win of the season, falling to Eastern Connecticut State University Thursday afternoon by a 16-11 score.

Eastern Connecticut State gets its second win of the year to move to 2-1. Roger Williams falls to 0-3 on the season.

The Warriors scored early in the first half and built a lead. The Hawks made a late run in the second half but could not overcome the deficit.

Nicole Shusdock (Norwalk, Conn.) took a pass from Taylor Shannon (Waterford, Conn.) two minutes in a fired in a goal to give the Warriors a quick 1-0 lead. Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) would take the ensuing draw control and made her way downfield for the game-tying score.

Eastern Connecticut would then roll off four straight scores—two by Daniela Marchitto (Orange, Conn.)—over a ten-minute span to go on top 5-1. Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) helped out with a goal for the Hawks at the 16:24 mark, but the Warriors answered with three more scores in a row. Roger Williams would close out the half with three goals in the final two minutes of play but still trailed 6-10.

The second half saw another 4-0 run by the Warriors before Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) scored with 17 minutes remaining. The Hawks would mount a late rally, getting four straight on the board to pull within four (11-15) with 5:27 to play. Yet the Warriors got one last goal from Ashley Prizio (Brookfield, Conn.) to come away with the win.

Kristianna Ibsen (Shelton, Conn.) earned the win for ECSU, making 16 saves on the day. Marchitto scored five goals in the game for the Warriors, while Prizio added four goals and an assist. Shusdock scored three times with an assist, while Megan Barrett (Setauket, N.Y.) finished with six ground balls.

Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) allowed five goals in the loss before being relieved by Meagan Connelly (Gloucester City, N.J.), who made five stops. Machette notched a hat trick for the Hawks, with Neagle adding a pair of goals. Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.) added a goal and three ground balls.

Roger Williams will host Mount Holyoke College on Saturday, while Eastern Connecticut State takes on Babson, also on Saturday.
