Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse won their third Commonwealth Coast Conference game to improve their record to (5-9, 3-2 CCC) with a 14-7 win over Western New England (5-9, 2-3 CCC).
The trio of Danica Delia (Norwalk, Conn.), Devin Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) and Dana Wilfahrt (Hamilton, Mass.) kept the Roger Williams offense firing on all cylinders. The trio accounted for 15 of the Hawks 23 points and 9 of their 14 goals. Liz McRoberts (Bourne, Mass.) was high point scorer for Western New England.
WNE opened the scoring at 26:13 in the first half with McRoberts scored on a pass from Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.). Machette answered 14 seconds later on an assist from Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.) to bring the game back to even. Delia and McRoberts brought the game to 3-3 trading unassisted goals.
Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) started a three goal run for the Hawks at 5:33 on an assist from Wilfahrt. Delia and Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) spread the score in the last minute of the first half to put RWU up 5-3.
Searl opened the second half of play with a goal at 29:13. Julia Bernas (Framingham, Mass.) responded for WNE with an unassisted goal to cut the lead back to two. Wilfahrt took a pass from Logan at 23:45 to begin four goal run. Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) followed with an unassisted goal and Machette finished on a free position shot before Wilfahrt closed the run on an assist from Delia to put the game at 10-4 for the Hawks.
Jessica Scannapieco (Blue Bell, Pa) stopped the run with an unassisted goal at 15:27. Machette dished the next two assist to Wilfahrt and Delia to make it 12-5. WNE's Kelsey Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) scored at 2:55 on a pass Doyle. Stephanie Fogg (Norwood Mass.) answered on an unassisted play to push the lead back to six goals. McRoberts put her last ball on net at 1:45 and Brittany Sweet (Hamden, Conn.) found Delia for RWU's last score of the game.
Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) had thirteen saves in the win and Emily Castleman (Wilbraham, Mass.) stopped 12 shot in the loss.
Roger Williams hosts Endicott on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.at Bayside Field and Western New England travels to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as well.
