Women’s Lacrosse downed by Springfield

BRISTOL, R.I. – Springfield, Mass. - March 10, 2013 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team outscored visiting Roger Williams 12-3 over the final 33:05 of the contest to cruise to a 17-5 victory on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Stagg Field.

The Pride continued one of the finest starts in program history, improving to 4-0 on the year. The Hawks dropped their second straight to fall to 1-2.

Allie Davis led all players with six points on four goals and two assists, while Michelle Dorsey added three goals and an assist to go along with three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Kelly Gallo netted a hat trick and Colleen Keeley recorded a goal and two helpers in the second half. Anne Versprille played just over 47 minutes between the pipes, earning the win as she gave up three goals while making three saves. Carley Elkin made her first collegiate appearance, making two saves in the final 12:24.

The Hawks were led by the duo of Kelsey Rahilly and Kristen Pingree, who each posted three points in the loss. Mackenzie Logan and Danielle Neagle each had three draw controls, and Justine Sullivan made six saves in goal.

Davis had a dominant showing in the opening 30 minutes of play, totaling three goals and two assists for home squad. Springfield opened up a 5-0 advantage in the opening 20:23, using two markers from Davis, and strikes from Dorsey, Meghan Flanagan, and Danielle Kaprielian.

The Hawks scored their first goal of the afternoon after Neagle stuck a shot on the run into the lower corner with 6:08. RWU got within 5-2 on a nice finish from Jessica Searl just 3:08 later, only to have Dorsey and Davis close out the first half scoring to give Springfield a 7-2 advantage heading into the locker room.

Gallo scored just 22 seconds into the second half to jump start a run of seven-straight goals by the Pride to begin the stanza. Rahilly would eventually score the Hawks first goal in nearly 15 minutes on an unassisted strike at the 18:36 mark. Mary Kate Jaeger's first career goal gave Springfield its largest cushion at 17-3 with 5:31 on the clock, but goals from Rahilly and Pingree in the final 1:46 closed out the afternoon's scoring.

Springfield will play its final game before heading to Florida for Spring Break when it hosts Williams on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.  The Hawks will return to action Tuesday March 12th to take on Smith in Northampton, Mass. At 3:30 p.m.
