Women’s Lacrosse beats St. Vincent

Kristen Pingree scores her 100th career goal

Box Score Hillburn, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team opened the home schedule on Monday evening with a 16-2 loss to visiting Roger Williams. Senior Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and freshman Shannon Steimel (Shoreham, N.Y.) were the goal scorers for the Dolphins. The Hawks improve to 1-3 overall in non-conference preseason matchups.

The visiting Hawks opened the game with the first seven goals of the game, building a seven goal advantage just over 11 minutes into the game. Kelsey Rahilly (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) scored twice in the opening five minutes of action and assisted on two other goals in the run.

Mount Saint Vincent got on the board at the 12:50 mark of the first half when Steimel deposited her first goal of the season. She scored on a free-position shot to being the Mount to snap and scoring drought of nearly 18 minutes.

Roger Williams went on to strike for four more goals over a six minute stretch to build an 11-1 advantage before Carr closed out the scoring in the first half. Her first of the season came unassisted with 3:26 left before halftime.

The Dolphins were outshot 14-8 in the first half and the visitors took 11 of the 14 draw controls in the opening 30 minutes.

The Hawks would get all five goals after the break to take the final 14 goal advantage. Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) scored twice after the break for Roger Williams who found the win column for the first time this season.

The visitors finished with 10 different goal scorers and five players with at least two markers. Rahilly closed out a seven point day with two goals and five assists, while Machette tallied three points, and Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) scored her 100th career goal. McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Sadia Crosby (Georgetown, Maine) each scooped three groundballs for the Hawks and Mackenzie Logan (Vernon, N.J.) won six draw controls and went 2-for-2 in free-position chances.

Jessica McAllister (Floral Park, N.Y.) won a pair of draw controls for the Mount on Monday and scooped a team-high three groundballs. Ardiana Mehmetaj (North Salem, N.Y.) also took a pair of draw controls for the Dolphins.

Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) finished the game with nine saves for the Dolphins, while Roger Williams used a pair of goalies that combined to make seven stops. Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made four saves in the first have for the visitors and finished with three groundballs.

Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 28-12 and 25-9 in shots on goal. The Hawks held the edge in groundballs 21-12 and dominated draw controls, winning 15 of the 20 contested.

Monday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-2 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to get into the win column when they return to action again on Thursday against Thomas.  The Hawks will be back in action Wednesday, March 12th to take on Colby-Sawyer at 1:00 p.m. at Bayside Field on the RWU campus in Bristol, R.I.
