Second half surge puts Camels over the Hump

Box Score BRISTOLR.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse Team fell to the Camels of Connecticut College 9-6. Taylor Thomas (Needham, Mass.) led all scorers with three goals.  The Camels improve to 3-3 overall while Hawks slide to 2-4 on the season.

Roger Williams opened the scoring at 22:49 when Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) found a crease in the defense and finished on her own.  The Camels answered at 21:57 with a goal by Lowell Abbott (Manchester, Mass.) that brought the game contest back to all square.

The Camels scored a second goal when Charlotte McAuley (Summit, N.J.) found some shooting space at 19:55 to take a one up lead. The Camels increased the advantage when Tina Balzotti (Duxbury, Mass.) found her mark at 13:46 setting the score to 1-3 for the Camels.

The Hawks answered at 11:54 when Searl found a cutting Kelsey Rahilly (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) in front of the goal to bring the score to 2-3.  Rahilly dished to McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) for the finish that squared the contest at 11:38.  Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.) put the Hawks back on top with an unassisted goal at 10:32.  Thomas (Needham, Mass.) answered for the Camels with the next two scores at 9:09 and :05 to take the 4-5 lead into halftime.

The Camels' McAuley scored the first goal of the second half, curling around the goal and finding the net in the bottom right hand corner.  Hannah Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) drove left and beat the goalie low off the bounce bringing the score to 4-7.  Caroline Moore (Ridgewood, N.J.) found the net on a free position attempt that hit its mark in the left corner.  Thomas turned a yellow card into a fast break transition that she finished herself in the bottom left corner to give the visitors a comfortable five goal advantage.

Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) brought the Hawks within four goals when she slipped between two defenders and finished her drive with a shot that found the net.  Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) put one last goal in the net for the Hawks on fast break assist created by Machette.

Connecticut out-shot the Hawks 22-11 and held a slight advantage in ground balls.  Allisa Dalpe (East Falmouth, Mass.) had two saves in the win while Kimberly Bolk (Jefferson Station, N.Y.) stopped six shots in the loss.
