Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. -The Roger Williams Women's cuts through the Nor'easters 20-6 in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Coast conference Championship Tournament. The Hawks improve to 9-8 on the season while the University of New England finishes with a 10-7 overall record for the season.
UNE started quick turning the first draw control in to a Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) goal in their first possession. Mackenzie Logan (Vernon, N.J.) and McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) answered back by scoring the next to goals and take the lead for the Hawks' 2-1.
After a few key turnovers caused by the Hawks' defense and fouls on UNE's offense, Everding and Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) both capitalized on a free position plays finding the back of the net. Minutes later, UNE's Gina Newsome drove through center field and beat her defenders to give her team their second goal of the day.
Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) then earned a free position attempt that she converted in the upper left hand corner of the net.
With a red card given to a UNE player in the back field, the Hawks used this advantage to up the lead to four goals.
With 7:17 to play in the first period Logan found a driving Everding from the corner of the field to add another point. Kelsey Rahilly (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) added two assists to her total after Deven Machette fired two shots that that hit their mark. The Hawks went on a 3-1 run to end the first half of play with scores from; Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.), Davenport, Machette, and UNE's Cole Dion (Lakeville, Mass.).
RWU opened the second half with two Pingree goals. The first finding the upper corner of the box and the second was a free position attempt. Minutes later, Pingree continued her run with another goal assisted by Rahilly. UNE found their first goals of the half from Newsome and Tavella with sixteen minutes left to play.
Searl found a driving Rahilly to give the Hawks another goal, while later, Pingree used a Machette pass to advance the lead to twelve.
RWU continued their scoring run with three goals from Rahilly, Pingree, Davenport, but UNE ended this run with a goal from Dion.
