Women's Lacrosse blows by the Nor'easters

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team blew past the University of New England Nor' Easters for a well fought 19-6 win. This Commonwealth Costal Conference game lets the Hawks improve to 3-2 in the CCC and 5-6 overall. The Nor' Easters fall to 1-2 in the CCC and 6-5 overall.

The Hawks came out in full storm gear with 6 consecutive goals to open the game. Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) found the back of the net at 25:43 to start off the scoring. Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) made her way past several defenders to get another score for the Hawks. Pingree was on a roll and couldn't be stopped when she made 2 goals less than a minute apart on assists from McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Kelsey Rahilly (E. Longmeadow, Mass.). Machette and Rahilly both made their way to the net for scores to put the Hawks up 6-0 at 20:02.

The Nor' Easters showed some resole at 19:00 when Gina Newsome (Danbury, Conn.) connected with Katie Cawley (Cumberland, Maine) for a goal. The Hawks came back less than a minute later when Rahilly found cutting Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) for a score. UNE fought back with a goal from Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) assisted by Newsome and a goal from Rachel Schwaner (Holderness, N.H.) to raise the score 8-4.

In the closing minutes of the half the Hawks and Nor' Easters exchanged goals. Rahilly hit Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) off a backdoor cut at 12:39 and again at 9:57. UNE's Travella and Schwaner kept the Nor'easter close with shots the found the net. The half was finished off by two goals from Machette threaded by Rahilly to bring the contest to 11-5 at the break.

In the opening of the second half the Hawks didn't let up. Pingree slid through traffic to find Everding for a score at 29:00. Davenport worked well under pressure and found the back of the net to raise the score 13-5. Rahilly then found Pingree open in the middle for a quick shot on goal followed by a free position shot made by Machette at 18:52.

The Nor'easters could only muster enough force for one goal in the second half by Schwaner at 17:05 to leave the Hawks up 15-6.

The rest of the game was finished off by several scores from the Hawks. Rahilly grabbed a rebound for a quick shot at 16:30. Pingree found space in the defense and took full advantage for a score. Shortly, after she was put on the line for a free position shot that she sank. Davenport closed out the contest with a goal at 10:30 assisted by Searl to give the Hawks a 19-6 win.

Lauryn Huck (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) had 11 saves in goal and Courtney Kendall had 1 stop for the Nor'easters. Hawk's keeper Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) had an outstanding game with 16 saves in net to lead Roger Williams to victory.

The Nor' Easters are slated to play next on their home field in Biddeford, Maine against Gordon college on Wednesday, April 9 at 4 p.m. The Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday, April 9 at 4 p.m. when they take on Western New England on the Bayside Field at the RWU campus in Bristol, R.I.
