Women’s Lacrosse drops second game down in Florida

Box Score BRADENTON, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team was edged 7-9 by SUNY Fredonia Thursday morning in non-conference, Spring Break action.

Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead six minutes into the game with her 16th goal of the season, taking the pass from Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.).

The Blue Devils' Marissa Cussins managed to tie the game at one apiece with a goal at the 22:57 mark. The game would remain at a 1-1 stalemate until the final 8:28 of the half, which kicked off a scoring frenzy.

Cussins and Katie Glagolev notched back-to-back goals in a minute to put SUNY Fredonia on top by two. Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) and Cussins traded goals in less than 30 seconds, before back-to-back scores from Hogan and Machette brought RWU to 4-5 with 1:19 left in the half. Fredonia's Kristie Kleine scored with 16 seconds left to send the Blue Devils into the half up 6-4.

In the second half, Machette and Rahilly notched goals for the Hawks in a 30 second span six minutes into the period, tying the game at six apiece.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, SUNY Fredonia scored three unanswered goals while RWU was held scoreless over the next 20 minutes. Rahilly put in her second score of the day with 3:52 left, but it would not be enough to complete the comeback for the Hawks.

Machette finished with three goals in the game for Roger Williams, while Hogan scored twice with four draw controls and Rahilly added four points on two goals and two assists. Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made six saves for RWU in the loss.

Roger Williams (2-2) returns back to Bristol and will host Wheaton on Wednesday, March 18.
