Women’s Lacrosse takes down Gordon with eight-point win

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team powered to a 3-0 start in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with an 18-10 win over Gordon College Saturday afternoon.
 
McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) opened the scoring for Roger Williams with her 12th goal of the season three minutes into the contest. Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) came back with an unassisted goal less than a minute later for Gordon to tie the game up at one.
 
Then at the 21:14 mark, Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) scored her first of four goals as part of a 6-0 Roger Williams run to put the Hawks back on top 7-1. The Fighting Scots managed to halt the Hawk barrages with just under 11 minutes remaining in the half, with Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) posting her 29th goal of the year.
 
Machette and Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added a goal each before Gordon's Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) closed out the period with a score of her own to make it a 9-3 Roger Williams lead.
 
The Fighting Scots fared better offensively in the second half, with Abby Illian (Hillsdale, N.J.) opening the period with a goal in the first 32 seconds. Gordon managed to tally three goals over the first 12 minutes of the half, matching the team's total from the first period.
 
Gordon managed to keep the game close, with Walton and Grinnell combining for three goals over a two-minute stretch to pull within four (9-13) with 12:40 left to play. However, the Hawks tallied four straight goals to pull away from the Fighting Scots and hold on for the win.
 
Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) had nine saves for the Hawks in the game, getting her fourth win of the year. Machette finished one point shy of tying her school record for most in a single game, finishing with 11 on eight goals and three assists. Rahilly tied a season high with nine points (6 G, 3 A).
 
Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.) made nine saves in the loss for Gordon. Walton and Illian each finished with three goals, while Grinnell added four points with two goals and two assists.
 
Roger Williams (5-3, 3-0 CCC) travels to Salve Regina on Tuesday, while Gordon (5-4, 2-1 CCC) hosts Western New England next.
