Women’s Lacrosse taken down by Washington College

Box Score BRADENTON, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team dropped its first contest of the season, as Washington College defeated the Hawks 14-7 Monday afternoon in Florida.

Washington College got on the scoreboard two minutes into the game, with Emily Hubley scoring off of a pass from Caroline Lovett for an early 1-0 lead. Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) tied things up with her fifth goal of the year. However, a pair of free position goals from Hubley and Katherine Vincent put the Shorewomen's up 3-1.

Reigning CCC Offensive Player of the Week Deven Machette (Norwalk, Conn.) tallied her 15 goal of the season halfway into the first period to bring the Hawks back within one. Yet Washington College rolled off four unanswered goals, three of which came from Vincent to build the lead to five.

CCC Defensive Player of the Week Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.) stopped the Shorewoman run with a goal five minutes into the second half, but Washington College tallied three straight goals to increase the lead to seven (10-3). Both teams would score four goals apiece over the remained of the game, as Washington College held on for the seven-point win.

Logan, Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and CCC Rookie of the Week Leah Osborne (New Fairfield, Conn.) each finished with a goal and an assist in the game for RWU. Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing ten goals with one save. Annie Bartkus (Bedford, Mass.) had five saves and four goals allowed in relief of Bolk.

Roger Williams (2-1) will take on SUNY Fredonia on Thursday.
