Rahilly sets all-time points record in loss in Women’s Lacrosse CCC Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Top-seeded Western New England used a tough defense late in the game to hold off #2 Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team, 11-9, to claim its first Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship title on Saturday at Golden Bear Stadium.

Roger Williams (12-5) was led by Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.) who had a goal and four assists, becoming the Hawks' all-time points leader with 306 points, passing Claire Halliday '11, who held the previous record of 302. Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) notched four goals on the day for RWU.

Senior Kaitlynn Stevens(Stratford, Conn.) led all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists while junior Taylor Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) tied Hogan with four goals in addition to an assist to pace the WNE offense. Stevens becomes the third Golden Bear in team history to surpass 300 points in her career here; she now has 196 goals and 108 assist for 304 points.

Defensively, Western New England held the Hawks off the scoreboard for the final four minutes and nine seconds after Hogan cut into WNE's lead to 10-9. Senior goalie Emily Castleman (Wilbraham, Mass.) made 12 saves in the Golden Bears cage, including a free-position shot by McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) to preserve a 6-5 lead going into halftime and several stops from close range in the second half.

With their sixth league title overall in program history, the New England Region No. 9-ranked Golden Bears (16-2 overall) earn the CCC's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament which gets under way with first-round action next Saturday, May 9.
