#16 Bates hands Women's Lacrosse first loss

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - #16 Bates College gave the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team its first loss of the season with a 13-4 win over the Hawks Tuesday afternoon.

Bates' Allison Dewey (Vergennes, Vt.) gave the Bobcats the early lead less than two minutes into the game with a goal off of a pass from Moriah Greenstein (Glenmont, N.Y.). Roger Williams came back with a patient offensive possession, waiting for the right time to strike and capitalizing with a Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.) goal five minutes later.

Unfortunately for RWU, that would be the team's lone score of the half as Bates scored six unanswered goals to close out the period. Greenstein and Camille Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) combined for four of the Bobcats' six tallies over the stretch to give Bates a 7-1 halftime lead.

The Bobcats began the second half with two more scores, with Greenstein and Alex Briody (North Kingstown, R.I.) giving Bates a commanding 9-1 lead. Caitlin Murphy (Londonderry, N.H.) halted the run with 19:37 to play, scoring her fourth goal of the year.

Bates came back with two more scores in a 90-second stretch, followed by a pair of RWU scores from McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Martin. Briody and Sydney Howard (Ashland, Mass.) tallied the final two goals of the game in the final five minutes to push Bates to the nine-goal win.

Greenstein finished with six points on three goals and three assists. Briody (3 G) and Kaileigh Maguire (Sudbury, Mass.) (1 G, 2 A) each added three points, while Dewey finished with two goals and ten draw controls. Hannah Jeffery (Greenwich, Conn.) made five saves in the win.

Martin led RWU with a pair of goals, while Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) added two assists. Everding put up one goal and one assist as well. Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made 13 saves for RWU.

On Saturday, Roger Williams (3-1) will travel to MIT, while Bates heads to Trinity.
