Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team kicked off its 2016 season with a 14-8 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Wednesday afternoon.
Pacing the way for the Hawks in the victory was sophomore attacker
Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.), who logged a career-high ten points on the day on seven goals and three assists.
Hogan began the scoring for the Hawks with back-to-back goals over a two-minute stretch, followed by
Caitlin Murphy (Londonderry, N.H.) taking a pass from Hogan and scoring to make it a 3-0 Hawk lead.
Devyne Doran (South Kingstown, R.I.) answered with a pair of goals of her own in less than a minute to bring the Warriors within one. However, the Hawks came back with three goals—two by Hogan, one by
McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.)—to give RWU a 6-2 lead with 14:37 left in the first half.
The final ten minutes of the period saw a lots of offense, with both teams combining for six goals. Michelina Pinto (Groton, Conn.) notched the last two scores in the final minute on passes from Katie Burke (South Windsor, Conn.) to make it a 7-9 halftime deficit for ECSU.
Maggie Bodington (Stratford, Conn.) began the second half scoring off of a caused turnover to bring the Warriors within one. Yet the Hawks scored three consecutive goals over the next 13 minutes to build the lead up to five.
Pinto notched the final goal for ECSU in with 11 minutes left before Hogan and Everding closed out the scoring for RWU and securing a six-goal win.
Everding finished with five points on four goals and an assists.
Marin Owens (Brookline, N.H.) assisted on three goals while
Abby Wollenberg (Farmington, Conn.) notched her first career score.
Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) picked up the win with nine saves on the day.
Burke finished with four points on a pair of goals and assists. Pinto scored three times, while Doran scored twice. Taylor Emmerson (Colchester, Conn.) stopped eight shots in the loss.
Roger Williams (1-0) heads to Florida to take on Methodist on Saturday, while Eastern Conn. St. (1-2) heads to Worcester State next, also on Saturday.
