Women's Lacrosse edges Wheaton

Box Score NORTON, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team held off a late game surge by Wheaton College to claim a 10-9 win Wednesday evening at Nordin Field.
 
Wheaton slips to 3-5 on the season, while Roger Williams improves to 4-2.
 
Carly Martin played a role in helping Roger Williams jump out to an early 2-0 lead, starting with an unassisted goal six minutes into the contest. She followed it up seconds later with an assist after finding an open McKenna Everding.
 
Wheaton equalized over the next four minutes. Katherine Kowal scored the first goal of the game for the Lyons after being fed the ball from Allie Bush. Madison Cohen knotted the game at 2-2 a few minutes later with an unassisted goal.
 
The Hawks went onto score three consecutive goals with Everding finishing two of them, while dishing out an assist on the other.
 
Trailing 5-2, Jenna Tewksbury scored the first of her four goals with 8:19 left until halftime. The Hawks responded with a goal from Kaelin Hogan, which was then answered by a goal from Cohen. Hogan ended the first half scoring, helping Roger Williams take a 7-4 lead into the half.
 
Cohen opened the second half with a goal assisted by Kowal, pulling the Lyons within three. The Hawks Emily Stoeppel netted back-to-back goals to push the RWU lead to 9-5.
 
Wheaton went onto scored three goals to pull within a single goal. Sophomore Katie Peters started the comeback rally with an unassisted goal with a little over half the period remaining. Tewksbury found net the following two times with unassisted goals, cutting the Lyon deficit to 9-8.
 
Everding scored her fourth goal of the game with 12:47 to go, increasing the Roger Williams lead to two. Like Everding, Tewksbury found the back of the net again for her fourth goal of the game, pulling Wheaton within a goal once again. Wheaton would have a few chances during the final eight minutes of action, but would be unable to find the equalizer.
 
Molly Witten played the complete game in goal for the Lyons, coming up with nine saves. Kimberly Bolk earned the win for Roger Williams, making 10 saves.
 
The Lyons return to action on Wednesday, March 30 at Smith College for the start of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
