Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team shut down the Endicott Gulls 10-7 Saturday afternoon at the Hawks' senior day.
The team honored its sole senior,
Caitlin Murphy (Londonderry, N.H.) prior to the game for her contributions to the program over the past four years.
Endicott gained control to start the first half, but it was the Hawks that would put the first point on the board. The first goal of the game was shot by Murphy at 25:18, assisted by
Marin Owens (Brookline, N.H.). At 22:06,
Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) scored her 50th goal and was quickly followed with a goal scored by
Paige Byrne (Clifton Park, N.Y.), assisted by
Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.).
Endicott's Erin McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) put the Gulls on the board with a free position shot at 18:33 to make the score 1-3. The half continued with no goals for the next several minutes until Jackie Neilsen (Agawam, Mass.) scored for the Gulls, to only trail by one.
A lot of scoring came in the final minutes of the half. The Hawks launched off the scoring streak with two goals scored within thirty seconds of each other.
McKenna Everding (Layfayettville, N.Y.) scored for the Hawks, followed by an
Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) goal.
The remaining minute of the first half had goals for both teams. The Gulls' Neilsen had a free position goal at 0:36 to bring the score to 3-5. The final goal of the half came from Roger Williams with another shot from Stoeppel with 21 seconds left to end the half with a 6-3 Hawk lead.
Roger Williams held off the Gulls for the opening minutes of the second half, scoring twice with goals from Everding and Hogan. At 25:25, Endicott put in their first goal of the half with a shot from Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) to set the score 4-8.
The goal began a 3-0 run for the Gulls to bring them within two, trailing 6-8. Endicott just missed adding another point to the run when Isabelle Sipperly's (Greenwich, N.Y.) shot hit the post at 16:32. The run was then broken by back-to-back goals by Everding at 15:27 and 9:01.
The last several minutes of the game saw rallying from both sides, but no goals. The game finished up with a Hawk win 10-7.
Everding finished with four goals. Hogan and Stoeppel each added two goals.
Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made nine saves in the win.
Neilsen and Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) scored twice for Endicott. Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) has seven saves for the Gulls in the loss.
Roger Williams (12-3, 7-0 CCC) travels to Milton, Mass. Tuesday evening to play Curry in the final game of the regular season. Endicott (6-9, 5-2 CCC) hosts U. of New England on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
