Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the 2017 season, falling 9-10 to Fredonia State in overtime Saturday afternoon in the Hawks' first game of their Spring Break road trip.
Roger Williams tallied the first two goals of the game, getting scores from
McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and
Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) in the first six minutes of the game. Fredonia State scored with 17:26 left before the Hawks rolled off three straight goals, two of which came from Everding.
RWU held a comfortable 5-1 lead with just under nine minutes left before Fredonia State ended the half on a 4-1 run to pull within one.
In the second half, Fredonia State tied the game at six apiece at the 26:47 mark. Roger Williams shortly went up by two with goals by Hogan and
Carly Martin in a 24-second span. Fredonia came back with a pair of goals to knot the contest at eight with 17:41 left.
Hogan notched another score with 9:03 to go in regulation, but Fredonia's Katie Miller notched the game-tying goal with just 3:25 left in the game, eventually sending the game to overtime. In the extra period, Samantha Spiess logged the game-winning goal with only 37 seconds left in OT to pull off the comeback.
Hogan finished with six points for RWU on three goals and three assists.
Emily Stoeppel (Brookline, N.H.) added three points on a goal and two assists while Everding scored three goals.
Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) had nine saves in the loss.
Roger Williams (3-1) takes on RPI Monday at 10:00am.
