Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team cruised to a 15-2 win over Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Gordon College Tuesday afternoon.
The Hawks got off to a quick start, with
Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) winning the opening draw and finding
Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.) for the first score twenty seconds into the game. Gordon came back with the tying goal two minutes later, with Olivia McCarrick (Millersville, Md.) finding Anna Rourke (Hamilton, Mass.) for a shot to the left side of the net.
Hogan would then go to work offensively for the Hawks over the next ten minutes of action, scoring three straight goals for RWU to put the team up 4-1 with 13:23 left to play in the first half.
Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.) kept things going for the Hawks with a tally with 8:10 left in the opening period.
Marin Owens (Brookline, N.H.) added one more score for the Hawks with just under five minutes left to build the lead to five. However, Gordon was able to stop the bleeding with a free position goal by Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) with 3:22 left in the first half, helping to sent Gordon into halftime only down by four.
Roger Williams would run away with the game in the second half, scoring nine times in the frame while shutting out Gordon in the process and holding the Fighting Scots to only one shot in the half. In addition, the Hawks force 11 Fighting Scots turnovers in the period while holding Gordon to only three successful clears.
Hogan led the way with seven points on four goals and three assists, while Everding tallied five points on three goals and two assists.
Emily Stoeppel had a solid all-around game for RWU with four points (2 G, 2 A), four ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnoers.
Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) need only one save for the win.
Walton and Rourke each finished with a goal for Gordon, with Walton adding five ground balls and a caused turnover. Hannah Bourk (Barrington, R.I.) added four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Keeper Melanie Dwyer (Reading, Mass.) stopped nine shots in the loss.
Roger Williams (9-3, 4-1 CCC) heads to Western New England on Wednesday, while Gordon (8-4, 3-1 CCC) hosts Salve Regina on Monday.
