Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team rolled to a 23-2 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology Tuesday evening in the team's final regular season game.
Prior to the contest, the team recognized its five seniors,
Alayna Fogg (Norwood, Mass.),
McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.),
Elizabeth Cahn (Baltimore, Md.),
Caitlin Shanahan (Forest Hill, Md.), and
Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), for their contributions to the program.
Roger Williams came out firing and never looked back. Everding and
Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) each scored three times over the first seven minutes of play for a quick 6-0 lead for the Hawks.
Wentworth's Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) got the Leopards on the board ten minutes into the game with her 47
th goal of the year. Yet that would be all Wentworth could muster in the first half. Roger Williams rolled off eight more goals over the last 20 minutes of the half, taking a commanding 14-1 lead into the break.
Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) was responsible for three of RWU's eight goals over that span.
In the second half, the Hawks dropped five unanswered goals in the first 14 minutes of play for a 19-1 lead. Wentworth's Julie Dam (Milford, Mass.) notched a free position goal with 14 minutes left for the sole Leopard goal in the second half. Roger Williams scored four more goals by the end of the game, including the first goal of the year for
Nicole Hanna (Somers, Conn.).
Hogan finished with nine points on six goals and three assists, while Stoeppel had four goals and four assists. Everding went for six points (5 G, 1 A), four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Bolk made four saves in 48:08 of play in the win.
Paradis and Dam each scored for Wentworth. Courtney McCormick (Hanson, Mass.) finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Liz Gunning (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) had five saves in the loss.
Roger Williams (12-3, 7-1 CCC) clinches the #2 seed for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament and will host a CCC Semifinal game next Wednesday. Wentworth ends the year at 2-14, 0-8 CCC.
