SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team will begin Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament play next week as the Hawks earned the #2 seed for the CCC Tournament and a quarterfinal bye.
Endicott completed a perfect 8-0 (12-3 Overall) Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular season to claim the CCC Regular-Season title and earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCC Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
The Gulls returned to the Championship game last year after having its streak of 10-straight title game appearances halted in 2015. However, their quest for the CCC crown came up short as they fell to Roger Williams, 16-7.
The reigning CCC Tournament Champion Hawks are in search of a repeat after earning their first-ever CCC title last year. They enter this year's bracket in the No. 2 slot. They went 7-1 in conference play (12-3 Overall) this year, with their only conference loss coming to the top-seeded Gulls.
As the top two seeds, both Endicott and Roger Williams receive byes into the semifinal round. They will wait on the results of the quarterfinal matchups, which are scheduled for Saturday, April 29.
One quarterfinal will feature No. 3 seed University of New England hosting No. 6 seed Western New England at 3 p.m. in Biddeford, Maine. The Nor'easters went 6-2 in the CCC (9-7 Overall) this year, while the Golden Bears finished with a 3-5 CCC (6-11 Overall) record. The other quarterfinal will be in Newport, R.I. as No. 4 seed Salve Regina plays host to No. 5 seed Gordon at 1 p.m. Salve Regina went 5-3 in the conference (6-11 Overall) and Gordon held a 3-5 CCC (8-8 Overall) record.
Though Gordon and Western New England had identical 3-5 conference records, the Fighting Scots were awarded the higher seed by virtue of the league's tiebreaking procedure. Gordon defeated WNE, 12-10, during their regular-season matchup to give Gordon the head-to-head advantage.
The winner of the UNE-WNE game will visit Roger Williams in the semifinals, while Endicott will host the winner of Salve and Gordon. The semifinal round is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3 and game times will be announced following the conclusion of the quarterfinals.
The two semifinal winners earn a trip to the CCC Women's Lacrosse Championship which takes place on Saturday, May 6. The CCC Tournament Champion will receive the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.
