Women’s Lacrosse Runs Over Bison

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University picked up its third straight double-digit win in conference play, with a 20-4 victory over Nichols College Friday afternoon.

The beginning of play was marked by meager play by both teams, with poor passing and ball control by the Hawks and the Bison. After shaking off the opening game jitters, Nichols' Brooke Marion (South Hadley, Mass.) tallied the first score of the game six minutes in, converting a free position shot.

McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) would later notch back-to-back scores for the Hawks for a 2-1 edge. However, Nichols came back with a Danielle Kozloski (Pepperell, Mass.) free position goal to tie the game up at two with 18:12 left in the half.

Emily Stoppel (Brookline, Conn.) would score for the Hawks a minute later as part of three consecutive goals by the sophomore forward. She would score four of RWU's next five goals over the following nine minutes to build the Hawks' lead to five (7-2). Kozloski ended the run with 8:14 left with a goal of her own, but RWU closed out the half with four unanswered scores to take a commanding 11-3 lead into halftime.

The Hawks would continue to dominate in the second half, outscoring the Bison 9-1 in the period. Nichols was held to only two shots in the half, as compared to 23 for RWU in the period. The Hawks kept the game out of reach for the final 30 minutes of play for the easy win.

Stoeppel finished with eight points on six goals and two assists. Hogan added nine points on three goals and six assists. Paige Byrne (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added a goal, four ground balls, and five caused turnovers. Kimberly Bolk (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) needed only two saves in the win.

Kozloski scored twice for the Bison, while Marion and Miranda Smith (Methuen, Mass.) each scored once. Mellissa LaFleur (Chicopee, Mass.) went for four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Emily Eagan (Hingham, Mass.) took the loss, making seven saves on the day in 30 minutes of action.

Roger Williams (8-3, 3-1 CCC) hosts Gordon on Tuesday, while Nichols (3-9, 1-4 CCC) welcomes Western New England on Tuesday as well.
