Women’s Lacrosse Earns Senior Day Win

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse rolled to a 19-7 win over Western New England University Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.
 
Prior to the game, the four seniors of RWU Women's Lacrosse, Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.), Paige Byrne (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.), and Nicole Palombo (Brewster, N.Y.) were honored for their contributions over the past four years.
 
The Hawk offense was in high gear early on. RWU jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of play, with Hogan responsible for three of RWU's goals. Kristen Breen (Ellington, Conn.) logged a goal for Western New England with 12:09 left in the half to put the Golden Bears on the board.
 
Roger Williams came back with goals from Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) and Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.). Alex Sacco (Concord, N.H.) added a score for the Golden Bears with 3:50 left in the half before Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) and Breen traded scores to close out the period. Roger Williams went into the break up by a 10-3 score.
 
Emily Stoeppel (Brookline, Conn.) scored in the opening minute of the second half but Breen got the goal back right off of the following draw. RWU went up 14-4 with 21:06 left, but Ariella Ruggiero (Valhalla, N.Y.), Eileen Ruby (New Fairfield, Conn.), and Kaitlyn Hutter (Stamford, Conn.) cut it to seven with 16:10 left. However, the Hawks ended the game on a 5-0 run to put the lead out of reach for Western New England.
 
Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) made six saves in the win. Hogan had seven points (4 G, 3 A), while Stoeppel had three goals and an assist.
 
Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped 18 shots in the loss. Ruby had four points on a goal and three assists.
 
Roger Williams (10-3, 5-1 CCC) heads to Nichols on Wednesday, while Western New England (4-10, 3-3 CCC) hosts Western Connecticut State on Wednesday.
