SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse finished the regular season as the #2 seed for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. The Hawks earn a first-round bye and will host the CCC Semifinals on Tuesday, May 1 at 6:00pm.
Endicott put together a perfect 8-0 CCC (12-3 overall) season for the second year in a row and will look to defend its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament Championship as the No. 1 seed.
Roger Williams, which has made four straight CCC Championship appearances, hopes to continue the streak this year as it enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Hawks compiled a 7-1 CCC record (12-3 overall) with their only league loss coming to the undefeated Gulls.
As the top two seeds, both teams will receive a bye directly into the CCC Semifinals. They will await the winners of the CCC Quarterfinals which take place on Saturday, April 28.
Western New England, which earned the No. 3 seed with a 5-3 CCC record (7-10 overall), will host No. 6 seed University of New England, which went 4-4 in conference (7-8 overall), in one of the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The other quarterfinal matches No. 4 seed Salve Regina, owner of a 5-3 league record (6-8 overall), with No. 5 seed Gordon, which finished the regular season at 4-4 in the CCC (7-10 overall). The Seahawks will host that game at 1 p.m.
With WNE and Salve both claiming 5-3 conference records and Gordon and UNE tied at 4-4, the league's tiebreaking procedure was needed to determine seeding. The Golden Bears defeated the Seahawks head-to-head during the regular season to claim the higher seed. The Fighting Scots' head-to-head win over the Nor'easters also gave them the edge.
The winners of the quarterfinal games will play in the CCC Semifinals on Tuesday, May 1. The winner of the WNE-UNE game will travel to Bristol, R.I. to play the Hawks and the Salve-Gordon winner will be in Beverly against the Gulls. Game times will be announced after the quarterfinal round.
The two semifinal winners earn a trip to the CCC Women's Lacrosse Championship which takes place on Friday, May 4. The CCC Tournament Champion will receive the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship.
