Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse came through with a 19-12 victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon.
Emily Stoeppel (Brookfield, Conn.) began the game with a goal at the 27:40 mark, but the Nor'Easters logged back-to-back goals by Megan O'Grady (Georgetown, Mass.) and Casey Conwell (North Andover, Mass.).
Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.) and Stoeppel put the Hawks back on top as each scored. However, Conwell tied the game with a score at 20:29. The Hawks came back with five unanswered goals by
Kaelin Hogan (Bethel, Conn.) and Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine). Korinne Bohunsky (Eliot, Maine) ended the RWU scoring run with a man-up goal with four minutes left in the half, yet the Hawks scored three more times in the final four minutes before UNE added one more to make it an 11-5 RWU lead going into halftime.
The Nor'Easters came out of the gate with three goals in the first five minutes of play to pull within three. Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.) and Hogan posted scores to build the Hawk lead back to five.
Trailing 9-13, the Nor'Easters had a goal by Anna Stowell (Sutton, N.H.) with 19 minutes left called off the board because of an offsides call. Roger Williams would come back with three straight goals by Maeve Gillis (Duxbury, Mass.), Ashley Warren (Wilmington, Mass.), and Erickson and take a 16-9 lead with ten minutes remaining.
Both teams traded goals back and forth over the remainder of the game, with each side scoring three goals while the Hawks left with the win.
Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) earned her eighth win of the season for RWU. Hogan had eight points (5 G, 3 A), while Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) finished with two caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Maritza Nary (Dover, N.H.) took the loss for UNE. Stowell finished with three goals, while Jolena Lampron (Lyman, Maine) had three points, nine ground balls, and four caused turnovers.
Roger Williams (8-3, 3-1 CCC) heads to Curry on Tuesday. The University of New England (4-7, 1-3 CCC) faces Salve Regina on Saturday.
