Women's Lacrosse Names Four Captains For 2020-21 Campaign

The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team has named four seniors to be team captains for the 2020-21 season. Midfielder Delana Erickson (Concord, N.H.), defenders Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) and Charlotte Perry (Merrimack, N.H.) and attacker Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) were honored with the leadership position.

"Across their four years on our team, I truly believed that these four were meant to be our captains as seniors," said Head Coach Jen Fox. "They have truly been leading by example both on and off the field since their freshman year and I could not be prouder of them for their growth and dedication to the team. Even during the loss of our season in 2019-20, these four were able to keep our team connected, positive, and focused on our goals."

Erickson has started in 36 of her 39 career games for the Hawks, accumulating 79 points on 60 goals and 19 assists. She has twice been named to the CCC Academic All-Conference team. She set her career-high for goals in a game in the 2018 CCC Semifinals with four against the University of New England, she matched that once in 2019, once again against the Nor'Easters. At the end of last season, she was tied for second on the team with six goals along with an assist.

"Delana is one of the most selfless players on our team. She has been a rock for us since her freshman year in the midfield and will continue to do so this 2020-21 season. She is someone who cares so much about her teammates and really knows when to listen. Her work ethic and grind both on and off the field do not go unnoticed. Delana is a true reflection of someone who leads with her heart."

Flahive has started in 40 of her 41 career games at Roger Williams. She has piled up 49 points but her true talent is as a defender where she has 55 caused turnovers in her career. She was named to the All-CCC First Team as a freshman while causing 25 turnovers before matching that mark as a sophomore to go with 30 goals and 42 points and being named to the All-CCC Second Team. She has also twice been named to the CCC Academic All-Conference Team.

"Lauren is the definition of leading by example. She is extremely driven and continues to set goals and crush them all. She is proof that hard work allows you to grow both as a lacrosse player and as a person. Not only is she the fastest one on our team but she has now made herself a threat on both ends of the field. Her work ethic is like no other and her competitive nature pushes this team to be better every single day."

Perry has played in 12 games, including eight starts since coming to Bristol. She has tallied nine caused turnovers and four ground balls in her tenure with the Hawks. At the end of last season, she had started in all five games for Roger Williams notching two ground balls and three caused turnovers. She has twice been named to the CCC Academic All-Conference Team.

"Charlotte is a true leader. She has always put the team first and shows true grit through adversity. She values relationships and because of that, she has the great ability to read people and pick them up when they're down. Charlotte knows how to build trust with her teammates. Her voice and leadership are our anchor on defense this year. Charlotte is a true reflection of resiliency."

Sarazin has started in 40 of her 41 career games for the Hawks, posting 131 career points. In that span she has accumulated 77 goals while her 54 career assists has her sitting just outside the top ten in program history. She burst onto the scene as a freshman recording 69 points, good for third on the team and seventh in the CCC. She was third on the Hawks with 37 goals and was second on the team and third in the CCC with 32 assists. She was named to the All-CCC Second Team and RWU Female Rookie of the Year for her efforts. She scored 55 points on 36 goals and 19 assists as a sophomore while being named to the All-CCC Third Team. She has twice been named to the CCC Academic All-Conference Team.

"Devon is a true lacrosse junkie. She grinds and competes every single day while also making her teammates look and feel great. She knows how to have fun and pump everyone up but also knows when to buckle down and work hard. She pushes everyone to be better every single day, especially on the attacking end. Devon is a true reflection of grit and someone who loves the game of lacrosse."

Across their three seasons so far in Bristol, the quartet has led the Hawks to a combined 28-13 record while posting 13 wins in both 2018 and 2019.

"All four of our captains raise the bar to what hard work and resiliency look like on this team. Not only do they all absolutely love the game of lacrosse, but they love their teammates even more. These four all bleed RWU Women's Lacrosse and we look forward to seeing them grow even more in their new leadership role this 2020-21 season!"
