BIDDEFORD, Maine – For the second time this spring,
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) of the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team secured Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week honors, this time for her defensive play, as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday. Cunningham played a critical role on the Hawks defense, as they shut down the opposition in a 2-0 week.
This marks the fifth time a member of the RWU Women's Lacrosse team has secured conference weekly honor, and it is the second time Cunningham has been rewarded with a weekly award this spring. Interestingly enough though, the first time Cunningham was recognized for her efforts on the offensive end for the week of February 28
th through March 6
th.
In addition to her normal offensive contributions, notching a goal and an assist in each contest, Cunningham was a menace in the passing lanes as she caused a total of six turnovers while also collecting six groundballs in the teams two contests. In RWU's dominant, 26-1 win over Nichols on Tuesday, she recorded a season-high four caused turnovers, a mark that was tied for the most among all players in the game. She added a season-best four ground balls in the contest, the most she has had in a game since she was a freshman. Cunningham followed that up with a two caused turnover, three groundball showing in the team's top-seed clinching win over UNE on Saturday.
