Men’s Cross Country: Roger Williams Looks to Secure the Five-Peat at CNE Championship

WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams Men's Cross Country team is gearing up for the Conference of New England Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Gordon College.

The Hawks will look to complete the five-peat and secure their fifth consecutive conference title under head coach Sean Livingston. On the season, the men have competed in four different events, with their best finish coming at the Trinity Invitational, where they placed fifth out of eight programs.

Individually, junior Nathan Evans (Lincoln, R.I.) has competed in five races, starting his season by representing RWU at the NCAA Division III Pre-Nationals and placing 65th with a time of 27:13.9. Evans recorded his highest finish in his second race of the season at UMass Dartmouth, clocking in at 25:58.97 and finishing 54th.

Senior Colin Czuchra (Oxford, Conn.) has been another strong runner for the Hawks, pacing the team in the Trinity Invitational and placing 23rd overall with a time of 17:18.7. Czuchra also finished just behind Evans in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational with a personal best time of 26:39.67.

Senior Ryan Cotugno (Melrose, Mass.) was consistently in the top five for the Hawks all season, with his highest finish coming at the James Earley Invitational, finishing 14th and pacing the Hawks with a time of 26:54.5.

Senior Nathan Tassey (Whitman, Mass.) made his season debut at the Paul Short Invite, finishing second overall with a time of 24:18.2. He was 13.3 seconds behind the first-place finisher at Paul Short. Tassey placed first at the CNE Championship meet last year with a time of 25:14.97, claiming his third straight conference title. Tassey will look to help the Hawks secure their fifth straight and a career sweep of the conference individual conference title.

Other Hawks to keep an eye out for on Saturday are senior Justin Dickinson (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Kyle Tarpy (Haverhill, Mass.). Dickinson and Tarpy have consistently been in the top five runners for the Hawks this season, as Tarpy recorded his career-best in the 8K at Paul Short.

The runners that land inside the top 15 at the championship meet this Saturday will be awarded All-Conference Honors, the Hawks will look to pick up their fifth straight CNE Championship.
