WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams Women's Cross Country team is set to compete in the Conference of New England Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Gordon College.
The Hawks will look to improve on their second-place finish in the conference championships last season, as Suffolk took the team title.
The Hawks last claimed the conference championship in 2019 under head coach
Sean Livingston.
On the season, the women have competed in four different events, with their best finish coming at the James Earley Invitational, where they placed seventh out of 13 programs.
Individually, the unit has been led by senior
Grace Baldwin (Braintree, Mass.). Baldwin has paced the Hawks at each event this season, with her highest finish coming at James Earley, where she placed 23rd overall in a field of 167 and set a new personal-best time of 20:02.1. She also finished 23rd overall in a field of 169 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
Sophomore
Gabriella Sitzer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) has been another big piece for the Hawks this season. Sitzer finished 51st at the Trinity Invitational, clocking a 23:04.7 and running consistent early splits through the one and two-mile marks
Junior
Katie Flaherty (West Hartford, Conn.) has been another strong runner for the Hawks this season. At James Earley, Flaherty tallied 43rd place, helping the Hawks earn their highest finish at a meet this season. She will also look to repeat as an All-Conference runner this upcoming Saturday.
Other Hawks to keep an eye out for on Saturday are senior
Amanda Walsh (South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore
Alyssa Lavalley (Epsom, N.H.). Walsh and Lavalley both recorded career-best marks at James Earley. Walsh finished 69th with a time of 21:34.7, with Lavalley following closely behind, landing 78th with a time of 22:08.3.
The runners who land inside the top 15 at the championship meet this Saturday will be awarded All-Conference Honors. The Hawks will look to pick up their first CNE Championship since 2019.
