CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Roger Williams University men's track and field team turned in a series of solid performances this past weekend at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT at the Henry G. Steinbrenner Track.
Leading the way for the Hawks was Nathan Tassey, who captured the individual title in the 10,000 meters with a blazing time of 29:28.10, resetting his school record while meeting the DIII New England qualifying standard.
Also highlighting the meet, senior Jack Bielawa clocked 57.84 in the 400-meter hurdles, placing fourth overall and securing a DIII New England qualifier. Bielawa also finished fourth in the triple jump, where he finished with a mark of 12.71 meters (41' 8.5").
In the hurdles, Aleck Isbester (15.39) and Griffin Hebert (15.69) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles. Hebert hit a New England qualifying mark in the 110m hurdles Isbester's mark of 15.39 reset a school record mark set by Dennis Schwerzler in 1981.
Ronald Nolin soared to a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters (6' 4"), also qualifying for DIII New Englands. Freshman Justin Diller recorded a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.93 meters (19' 5.5"), while Nolin also placed 16th in the event.
In the throws, Napoleon Suderman and Enrique Maldonado delivered strong performances in the hammer throw, placing fourth and fifth with marks of 43.36 meters (142' 3") and 42.19 meters (138' 5"), respectively. Adam Goralski added a 19th-place throw of 29.71 meters (97' 6"). Adams Becerra placed 27th in the shot put with a top throw of 10.09 meters (33' 1.25"), and Nathan Labossiere recorded a mark of 36.14 meters (118' 7") to take 14th in the javelin.
The Hawks had a strong showing in the middle-distance events, highlighted by Wesley Baccay's 19th-place time of 4:20.86 in the 1500 meters, followed closely by Max Hargreaves (22nd, 4:23.45) and Eli Labell (26th, 4:25.61).
In the sprints, Jayden Rinaldni and Caden Shelton both clocked 11.58 in the 100 meters, tying for 28th overall. Rinaldni also led a deep group of Hawks in the 200 meters, where Joseph Mallozzi finished 29th in 23.15, followed by Jon Gladstone (33rd, 23.33), Labossiere (38th, 23.53), and Burke Mattey (40th, 23.73).
In the 400 meters, Oliver Polster paced RWU with an 18th-place time of 53.51, while Joshua Soucy (56.24) and Ryan Reyes (56.37) rounded out the top 30.
Roger Williams will look to build on this momentum heading into championship season, with the Conference of New England Championships Set to begin on Friday, Apr. 25.
