Swimming: Men’s and Women’s Swimming Head to NJAC Championships

HAMPTON, Va. – The Roger Williams University Men's and Women's Swimming Teams are set to begin competition on Thursday at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Swimming and Diving Championships. The Men's Swimming team finished in fifth place last season and the season before, while the Women's Swimming team placed seventh last season and eight the season prior.

This year's NJAC Championship will begin on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 4:30 PM with men's 3-meter diving preliminaries. The late session on Thursday will consist of the women's and men's 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay finals.

The men's and women's teams will enter the 200-yard medley relays within the top ten, ranked 6th and 7th.
 
The following day will begin at 9:30 am with the men's and women's 50-yard and 500-yard freestyles, 200-yard individual medley preliminary races taking place. The morning will end with the 400-yard medley relay. The day will continue with the finals for all of these events in the afternoon.

In the 50 freestyle, James Augustin (Massapequa, N.Y.) is seeded 8th with a time of 21.01, while Avery Benigni (Meriden, Conn.) will lead the women with a time of 24.91. The men's and women's teams both sit 7th for the 400-yard medley relay.
 
On Saturday, the men's and women's 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard backstroke preliminaries will take place in the morning, finishing with the 200-yard freestyle relay finals. Saturday afternoon continues with the finals of all of these events.

The men's and women's teams are both in the top ten for the 200-yard freestyle relays, with both teams ranked 7th. Mattia McIntyre (Norton, Mass.) will be the Hawk to watch in the women's 100 breaststroke.
 
Sunday will wrap with men's and women's 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle relay, and 1650-yard freestyle races.

Augustin is ranked within the top ten again for the Hawks in the 100 freestyle, where he sits 9th with a time of 46.01. Luke Austin (Essex Junction, Va.) sits 10th for the Hawks in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.64, while Milo Stefanowicz (Point Pleasant, N.J.) is ranked 12th with a time of 2:07.00. The men's team sits 7th in the 200 free relay to round out the weekend. For the women, Claire Dombrofski (West Hartford, Conn.) will be the top swimmer for the Hawks in the 100 freestyle, while McIntyre will be the top Hawk for the 200 breaststroke. Shae Gonzales (Pottstown, Pa.) will lead in the 200 baskstroke. The women's team is ranked 7th in the 200 free relay.

The meet will begin at on Thursday and will conclude on Sunday evening. There will be team updates throughout the weekend.
