Men’s Track & Field: Hawks Get Set for CNE Championship

WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Track & Field team is set for the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship on Friday, Apr. 24 and Saturday, Apr. 25. The CNE Championship will be held at Gordon College, but hosted by Suffolk University and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The Hawks placed second last year behind Hartford, who halted their quest for four titles in a row.

RWU currently has two student-athletes ranked inside the top 50 national in their respective events, with Nathan Tassey holding the ninth-best time in the 10,000 meter and Justin Dickson ranking 21st nationally in the decathlon.

On Friday, the Hawks will open with the pole vault set to begin at 2:00pm. Dickson will lead the Hawks in the pole vault with a 3.90m. The javelin, high jump, and hammer throw will begin simultaneously on Friday. Jordan Kellis will lead the Hawks in the javelin with a 52.40m throw, while Ronald Nolin will be the top seed for RWU in the high jump with a height of 1.88m. The hammer throw will see Napoleon Suderman and Enrique Maldonado, throwing 47.48m and 45.55m respectively.

The long jump and steeplechase will round out day one of competition. In the long jump, Jon Magliozzio will be the top seed for RWU with a mark of 6.06m. For the steeplechase, Eli Labell leads the Hawks with a seed time of 10:07.56.

Opening on Saturday, RWU will start at 10:00 am with the discus and triple jump. Suderman and Maldonado will be back in action for the Hawks in the discus, with Suderman holding the top throw at 43.70m and Maldonado not far behind at 42.28m. In the triple jump, Brendan Moore will be the top seed for RWU with a 11.19m mark.

Rounding out the field events on Saturday, will be the shot put. Suderman and Maldonado will throw again for Roger Williams, throwing 12.65m and 12.14m respectively.

On the track, the 4x100 relay will begin at 11:00am and will be followed by the 1500-meter. The Hawks will send the team of Will Hight, William Volpe, Constantine Georgopoulos, and Jayden Rinaldni to the 4x100 relay, who hold a strong time of 43.70. In the 1500-meter, Tassey paces the Hawks with a time of 3:58.50, followed by Colin Czuchra with a time of 4:13.75 and Nathan Evans with a time of 4:18.34.

The 110 hurdles will begin at noon, followed by the 400-meter, 100-meter, 800-meter, 400 hurdles. Dickson will be on the track for the Hawks for the 110 hurdles and 400-meter, currently holding a 16.54 and 51.76 time respectively. In the 100-meter, Will Hight and Dickson will lead RWU with both of them holding a 11.43 time. Oliver Polster and Tate Midora will pace the Hawks in the 800-meter, holding times of 2:00.34 and 2:01.88 respectively. To round out the morning in the 400 hurdles, Shane Hughes will head to the track for the Hawks. Hughes leads RWU with a time of 1:02.87, closely followed by Adam Lacroix with a time of 1:04.56.

Rounding out day two will be the 200-meter, 5000-meter, and the 4x400 relay. In the 200-meter, the Hawks will send Jack Bates and Justin Rowe to compete. In the 5000-meter, Evans and Czuchra lead RWU with times of 15:31.14 and 15:49.21 respectively.

The last event will be the 4x400 relay as the Hawks send Jon Gladstone, Midora, Bates, and Rowe, the team is the top seed for RWU with a time of 3:32.75.
