BRISTOL, R.I. - The No. 2 seed in the Conference of New England (CNE) Women's Lacrosse Tournament, Roger Williams University, is set to open its conference tournament run against No. 3 Johnson and Wales on Bayside Field on Wednesday, April 29th, at 4:00 pm.
The No. 3 Wildcats come in with a 10-7 overall record, going 7-3 in CNE play. They come into this semifinals after a 19-12 win over No. 6 Suffolk on Saturday, April 25th in the First Round.
The Hawks enter the CNE Tournament with a 9-8 record on the year while going 8-2 in CNE action. The Hawks come into the Semifinals after a first round bye with their latest contest being a 18-3 win over Curry on Wednesday, April 22nd.
Johnson and Wales' offense is led by Riley Shipley who leads the Wildcats with 62 goals on the season with 27 assists to total for 89 points on the year. Sidney Mayers is another key piece of the Wildcats offense, with 49 goals and 10 assists on the season for 59 total points. Cassie Burke rounds out the three top scorers with 43 goals and three assists for 46 total points.
On the other side, Roger Williams is offensively led by
Allie Shamberger, (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) who leads the team both goals and assists with 45 goals and 34 assists to total for 79 points on the season. Behind Shamberger is
Miranda Hayes, (South Burlington, VT) who has collected 34 goals and 18 assists on the season for a 52 point total on the year.
Lauren Canata (West Springfield, Mass) and
Jamie Anthony (Sommers, Conn) are also key contributors for the Hawks with Canata scoring 32 goals and nine assists for 41 points and Anthony scoring 31 goals and seven assists for 38 points.
On the draw, the Hawks will most likely go with their star Hayes, who has 143 draw controls on the year. Going into this game, Hayes has 386 total career draw controls. For the Wildcats, Keira Donnegan leads the team in draw controls with 66. The first year has 66 total career draw controls coming into Wednesday's action.
Johnson and Wales will likely turn to first year goalie Carley Cook. Cook has 67 saves on the season to go with a 36% save percentage and is 5-3 on the season in net for the Wildcats.
Aizza Chase (Cohasset, Mass.) will most likely be in goal for the Hawks. Chase has started all 17 games for the Hawks this season, with 111 saves and a 40.5% save percentage on the season.
