Scott Viera became the first-ever varsity Wrestling coach at Roger Williams University in 1991, spending the inaugural season at the helm of the program. He returned to the Hawks in 1996, spending 12 seasons as an assistant coach at the side of former Head Coach and current RWU Athletic Director Dave Kemmy. During Viera’s time as an assistant coach, the team won the 2007 New England Dual Meet Championship, and finished as runner-up at the 2001 New England Championship. The team won five Pilgrim League Championships, had six New England Champions, and three NCAA All-Americans. After passing away in 2008 after a valiant bout with cancer, the team dedicated the biannual mid-season tournament and the team spirit award in his honor.
