BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team is preparing for its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend. The Hawks will take on William Smith College in the First Round game of the tournament this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Gettysburg College.
Tickets for the game will be $5 for adults, $3 for students with valid ID, $2 for children ages 3-11, and children 2 and under are free. NCAA Tournament
Roger Williams Women's Lacrosse is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning its first Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in program history this past weekend. The Hawks throttled Endicott College 16-7 in the CCC Championship in front of a raucous home crowd.
CCC Coach of the Year
Lisa Vogeley collected her first conference championship after reaching CCC Championship Game in each of her three seasons at Roger Williams. She currently has the team ranked tenth in New England in the NCAA Regional Rankings.
Junior
McKenna Everding was named the CCC Offensive Player of the Year, broke the single-season school record for goals scored (76), and is currently tied for 5th among all NCAA players in goals scored.
William Smith, receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll, enters the tournament at 11-7 after winning the Liberty League Championship by defeating Skidmore 7-6 in the tournament championship.
Senior Hannah Connolly leads the team with 32 goals, 15 assists, and 47 points. Senior Geneva Calder has won a team-high 28 draws. Junior keeper Sarah Honan ranks 13th in the nation in goals against average at 6.58. Overall, William Smith ranks 17
th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 6.56 goals per game.
Host institution Gettysburg is making its 15
th consecutive national playoff appearance and 16th in the last 17 years. The team earned its way into the NCAA Tournament after winning its 10
th Centennial Conference title in program history.
Gettysburg has won its NCAA opening game in each of the past seven seasons, while Head Coach Carol Cantele ranks fifth among all NCAA women's lacrosse coaches in wins with a record of 379-124.
Gettysburg ranks seventh in the country in scoring defense at 5.72 goals allowed per game. Team also sits with a program-record low 5.70 goals-allowed average. In addition, the Bullets only commits 10.33 turnovers per game—second in the nation—while goalie Shannon Keeler ranks seventh in the country in GAA at 6.22.
